HUAYI Social Work Center is an officially registered NGO. "Healthy, Love and Fair" is HUAYI's vision and it mainly aims at promoting children’s life and educational standards, especially those in rural areas and families with low income in cities. It is initially founded in Dec. 2005 by several graduates and undergraduates as a grass-root NGO.
From Mar. 2006, HUAYI began to launch teaching aid project. From Mar. 2007, HUAYI started the project for left-behind children (many rural children’s parents work in big cities all year long and these children are left in villages, living with their grandparents and apart from parents’ care). Through our investigation, we found education of mental healthy for these children is largely neglected. Thus we designed and implimented the project which combined two techniques, Group Work from social work and Group Counseling from psychology, to help them. This project is implemented for seven terms until Jun. 2010.
Meanwhile, HUAYI also launches "Book Bank Project". This project adopts BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model to set up libraries which require children’s self-management in rural areas. At beginning, HUAYI builds the library with volunteers and then operates with children. The management will be transferred to children at the end. The first term of Book Bank is already launched in Changfeng county of Hefei city. This library has 2,300 books and services more than one hundred primary school students. After student's self-management for six months, only two books were missing.
In Oct. 2009, HUAYI was granted as the National Top 5 Potential NGOs in China by the Red Cross Society of China, Jet Li One Foundation.
